square metres of matting
Axis Tiles used (approx.)
On October 1, 2015, a $160m, 100-shop mall was thrown open to the public and joined Auckland’s shining portfolio of shopping centres. Fletchers had handled its construction for 18 months and was opened by the Mayor of Auckland. The mall is a big step forward in the development of the Westgate area and this giant structure spans 4 rugby fields in size.
The swanky new mall is owned by DNZ Property Fund and houses the big players Countdown, Farmers and several other local businesses.
So how does Barrier Matting feature here? Simple. Our work greets you at the doors – new Axis Tiles matting systems that we installed, were specified by Buchanan Architects, to maximise dirt and moisture uptake, while still retaining their good looks. This ensures that dirt and wet is not tracked into the building and the mall floors are kept clean and safe in all sorts of weather conditions.
On a side note, the Axis Tiles were first installed by us in the entrance ways of the Westfield Shopping Mall at Albany, which opened on the 30th of August, 2007. These robust matting systems have been the most popular choice for mall entrances over the last 8 years and it comes as no surprise that Northwest should get these installed too.

Everything was thrown at us and we were right at the forefront of the action. It was quite the feat to get the matting down, done and dusted – 36 hours prior to the grand opening and without any snags!!! We enjoyed every moment of it.
